Belgian Horse facts: The Belgian draft horse is a large horse, usually chestnut in color, but can also be sorrel or roan. Many have flaxen manes and tails. Some have white blazes or stars on their foreheads. The Belgian draft horse in the widest, most compact, and most massive of the draft breeds. The Belgian draft horse was first bred to pull heavy battle chariots and to carry heavily armored knights. Later, when agriculture increased, Belgian draft horses were used to pull carts, wagons and plows and to haul timber and coal. The Amish still use them for farm work, and they are popular show animals.
