I am sorry- I got carried away when I saw you..
As far as 8 years old, I doubt there is much you can do .. Only a vet can take care of this- also loose teeth can be a low infection in the jaw.. maybe the vet can provide a temporary fix of antibiotics and let them know what they are dealing with..
do you know the last time the dog had their teeth cleaned?

Loose, rotting teeth are open invitations to bacterial infections and a plethora of health problems. I like using analogies, so imagine your dog is a country and its teeth are the borders. Right now, there's a whole bunch of bad stuff crossing those borders and potentially invading your dog's immune system.

Avoiding the situation is just going to make it worse, so my honest suggestion is to extract those loose teeth and keep up a rigorous dental health plan. Your friend is in luck because February is Pet Dental Health month and many vets offer discounts. Because dentals are pretty non-invasive, your friend can go to a different, cheaper vet for this procedure.

Also, VCA is offering a $30 discount on dentals, but extractions come at an additional cost.
