I am so sorry- everyone here keeps paws and fingers crossed for little Puddy to pull through.
I am so sorry- everyone here keeps paws and fingers crossed for little Puddy to pull through.
Dr. Feeman called just a few min. ago and told me that, given that Puddy is only 13 hours out of surgery, she's up and walking around. Her levels are all elevated but that's to be expected. He said that when Dr. Lee opened her up, he was shocked at how bad the left kidney was. She shows no interest in food right now so they're going to give her an appetite stimulant if she doesn't eat soon.
I was prepared to have to put her to sleep. But I wanted to hear it from Dr. Lee. He knows her history and he's the one who has treated her and when I took her in last time I said "I can't keep putting her through this." and he said "She has long periods of doing well and I think you'd be short changing Puddy. I'll let you know when it's time." He's not a money hungry vet; he truly likes Puddy and he grins every time he sees her. Dr. Feeman said "Dr. Lee must really think a lot of Puddy and of you to rearrange his wknd plans w/his sons to come in on a Fri. evening to perform surgery, esp. after he was in surgery all day." So I trust Dr. Lee's judgment.
I fell into bed exhausted last night and slept well. I was awake but snug under the covers this morning when the phone rang. It's still raining and it was so warm and safe, except that my bunk buddy Puddy was missing. But when I heard Dr. Feeman's voice, I could tell that it was positive news. He said that she's not out of the woods yet but if she continues the way she's going, I can probably take her home on Monday.
Boy, this was a tough one! And, of course, this expensive surgery had to come just when my estimated taxes are due and right after the holidays. Great timing! But my little girl is worth it, as long as I see that she has quality of life and isn't in any great pain. What a fighter this girl is!
Thanx again, friends, for all your concern and support. I'll talk to Dr. Feeman again this aft. for an update and I'll post then.
Blessings,
Mary
I'm so happy to hear this positive news for Puddy. Prayers that she's on the way to fully mending!
Spoiled child, bad
Spoiled cat, good
Looks as if you really have good vets there who share your love for Puddy.
And regarding he fact that it was a really big surgery for a weak kitty Puddy is doing amazingly- I am sure she wants to come home with you![]()
I just got off the phone w/Dr. Lash this time; Dr. Feeman isn't in today. But Dr. Lee called to check on Puddy and they told him that she's growling and hissing and he said "That's all I need to know." So, apparently, he feels that's a good thing. I think it's really good cuz she couldn't even lift her head for two days. She still hasn't eaten but she's sniffing her food so that tells me she's prob. hungry but doesn't like what they're giving her, even though it has her favorite, chicken, in it. They're going to wait to give her the appetite stimulant since she isn't even 24 hours out of surgery. Dr. Feeman said he would call me tomorrow, Sunday, to update me again. Keep up the prayers that Puddy eats so that I can bring her home.
Blessings,
Mary
Thanks for the updates. I'm glad to hear that she's doing well. It sounds like you have a little fighter there.![]()
She's a fighter, alright! She's been to hell and back w/CRF and an inflamed colon plus she started her life w/a hind leg that doesn't reach the floor and a crooked tail that's full of knots and can't stand up all the way. This cat is so tough; that's why Dr. Lee said "that's all I need to know". He knows if she's quiet, it's a bad sign. I'll relax more when I get her home and can keep an eye on her.
Blessings,
Mary
I've been having computer problems AGAIN, so tomorrow I'm PC shopping. It'll take my mind off Puddy for a while, too. Anyhow, I'm hoping this pic goes through. It's of my Puddy girl.
Blessings,
Mary
