I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
    Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
    creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
    Only a hippopotamus will do
    No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
    I only like hippopotamuses
    And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
    creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
    Only a hippopotamus will do
    No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
    I only like hippopotamuseses
    And hippopotamuses like me too!

Reminds me of this one, but could not find the whole version: ELETELEPHONY
    once there was an elephant
    who tried to be a telephant;
no no, I mean an elephone
who tried to be a telephone.
(Dear me I am not certain quite
that even now i've got it right)
how e'r it was he got his trunk
    entangled in the telephunk
the more he tried to get it free,
    the louder buzzed the telephee.
(i fear i'd better quit this song
    of elehop and telephong.)

My favorite would have to be Six White Boomers. I love that song. I like the hippopotomus one too, but it got so over played here last Christmas. You couldn't change a radio station without hearing it.

    Six White Boomers

Early on one Christmas Day, a Joey Kanga-roo
Was far from home and lost in a great big zoo
Mummy, where's my mummy, they've taken her a-way
We'll help you find your mummy son, hop on the sleigh

    [Verse:]
Up beside the bag of toys, little Joey hopped
But they had'nt gone far when Santa stopped
Un-harnessed all the reindeer and Joey wondered why
Then he heard a far off booming in the sky

    [Chorus:]
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
    .. On his Aus-tra-lian run

Pretty soon old Santa began to feel the heat
Took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet
Into one popped Joey, feeling quite OK
While those old man kangaroos kept pulling on the sleigh

Joey said to Santa, Santa, what about the toys
Aren't you giving some to these girls and boys
They've all got their presents son, we were here last night
This trip is an extra trip, Joey's special flight

Soon the sleigh was flashing past, right over Marble Bar
Slow down there, cried Santa, it can't be far
Come up on my lap son, and have a look around
There she is, that's mummy, bounding up and down

Well that's the bestest Christmas treat that Joey ever had
Curled up in mother's pouch all snug and glad
The last they saw was Santa headed northward from the sun
The only year the boomers worked a double run

Gee, where have I been ~

I've never heard "I want a "Hippopotomus for Christmas", nor, "Six White Bloomers" either~ Whaaaaa~ Oh, if not for Pet Talk~

I do know, and , have the Poem "The Blind Men and the Elephant~ ( A Hindoo Fable, by John Godfrey Saxe) I had to memorize it as a fourth grader!!! (glad I don't have to recite it now~ ) 8 verses and a moral to the story!!!!

I like sooo many of the Christmas Songs Posted above me~

One that stands out to me now is :

Good King Wences~ ( I listened to The Ames Brothers Version, in the early 60's)

Good King Wences look'd out, On the feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about, Deep and Crisp and Even.
Brightly Shone the Moon that night,
    Tho' the Frost was Cru-el,
When a poor man came in sight,
    Gathering Winter fu~el.

Hither Page, and stand by me,
    If thou know'st of, telling;
    Younder peasant, Who is He?
    Where, and, what his dwelling?

"Sire , he lives a Good League hence,
    Underneath the Mountain;
    Right against the Forest Fence,
    By Saint Agnes Foun~tain.

Bring me Flesh and Bring me Wine,
    Bring me pine logs hither;
Thou and I shall see him dine,
    When we bear them thither.

Page and Monarch forth they went,
    Forth they went together;
Thro' the rude wind's wild lament,
    And the Bitter Weather~

I also liked "The Ames Brothers" Version of "Go Tell it on the Mountain"

    Nat King Cole's ~ The Christmas Story~

I'm not sure what my favorite is...maybe "I'll Be Home for Christmas." It's kind of sad, but I really enjoy it.

I like that song too. I always get teary eyed when I hear it.

I like the Hippo song too. It's cute.

Has anybody seen the musical "SCROOGE"? It's an oldies (70's musical version of A Christmas Carol). Anyhoo, I like the song "I LIKE LIFE" from that movie. I always feel happy & blessed when I hear it.

I love Fenway, JoJo, Olivia and Nonnie!

    Christmas Wrapping
    The Waitresses

"Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
    Completions and connections left from

    Last year, ski shop,
    Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
    Christmas by myself this year.

    Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
    Evergreens, sparkling snow
    Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

    Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
    Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

    Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
    Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
    Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
    Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.

    Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
    Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
    'Cause it's r-s-v-p
    No thanks, no party lights
    It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
    Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
    Trudge on home to celebrate
    In a quiet way, unwind
    Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has its pride in me
    With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
    To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

    Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!
    Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!

I LOVE "I Want a Hippopotomus for Christmas"! It is also Misha's favorite song. Any time it comes on, we must stop everything and dance to it! The best part is listening to her sing it!! She has most of the words down and can even say Hippopotomus- not bad for a two year old!

Me neither! I better crawl out from under the rock I've been living under this year

I love Go Tell it on the Mountain, O Holy Night, also I Have a Present for Jesus - I can't find the words but you can listen to it here: http://music.download.com/kidsforchr...100477463.html

It's really cute - the kids at church sing it.

I also love Jeff Foxworthy's Redneck version of the 12 Days of Christmas

Thank-You for that song, JenBKR~(clicks onto link)

Children often Bring "Christmas " back to us ~ all over again~

And, I do love~ "Oh Holy Night"~ My sister sang it in "The High School Choir, ~ She replayed that record, over and over ( contributing the Alto version ) and my "Dad" replied with~ "Turn the Page"~ it't a 60's Memory

It is still one of my favorite Christmas Hymns!!!! So peaceful!!!!
    ( The Weary World Rejoices~)

I've got to listen to Jeff Foxworthy's Version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas"( Thank-you for the nudge, says Dorothy39)

    Great Reply, by the way~

Mine is Rise Up Shepherd and Follow:

There's a star in the East on Christmas morn,
    Rise up Shepherd and follow.
It will lead to the place where the Savior's born.
    Rise up shepherd and follow.
    Follow.
    Follow.
    Rise up shepherd and follow.
    Follow the star to Bethlehem.
    Rise up shepherd and follow!

That's all I remember. You don't hear it any more.
No matter what anyone does, someone some where will be offended some how!!!!

YESSSSSS! LOL! Didn't think anyone else knew who the Ames Bros. were! One of my favorites is Ed Ames's Christmas album. Especially "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" - (wonderful with his mellow baritone voice!) and a little one about a donkey- I don't even know it's name. I sing it to myself every single year. And believe it or not, I get teary up every time! I'm so happy for the little donkey!

    "Long ago in another day,
A donkey cried in his donkey way
"I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful, what good to anyone am I?
'Other animals are big and strong, or rare, or filled with an animal song....
But I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful, what good to anyone am I?"

Heaven cried, "Donkey, you can carry,
Oh will you carry Mary, with angels for your guide?"

On Christmas morn in the stable hay,
a donkey smiled in his donkey way.
"I'm so beautiful, I'm so beautiful, as beautiful as anyone am I!
As beautiful as anyone am I!"
