Like so many Pet Talk Members , posting above me, I felt a weight decending onto me when I looked at the pictures of your Sheba , on her 13th Birthday.
(I had dial up then, but, I have been fortunate now , to see her!!!)
I'm so sorry that you had to endure what was Right and Just for such a Special Family Member. It is one of the most difficult decisions are faced with.
When We had to put our 13 year old dog to sleep,( Katie Lynn, 2003) I found comfort on the internet while finding this article by Ben Lampman~
Offered in 1925!!!
I printed a portion of it and have framed it. It is Healing me, to say the least.
The Place to Bury a Dog~
There is one place to bury a dog,
If you bury her in this spot,
She will come to you when you call,
Come to you, over the grim-dim frontier of death,
And down the well remember path,
And to your side again.
And though you may call a dozen living dogs to heel,
They shall not growl at her, nor resent her coming,
For she belongs there.
People may scoff at you---Who see no lightest blade of grass
Bent by her foot fall, who hear no whimper~
People who may never have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them,
and is
Well Worth Knowing~
The Best Place to Bury a Good Dog,
Is in the Heart of Her Master~
Again, We Know of Your Sorrow and Loss~
May your Beautiful Sheba live on and on in Sweet Memories![]()
