Back from the vet. Prior I took him and Kia outside for a quick potty break. He had liquid diarreha and peed. I took Kia back inside and took Chipper over to the vet.

He had more diarreha in the exam room and it looked pretty nasty.

They took him back for the blood and when the Vet brought him out to me, he again squatted and this time it was bloody diarreha.

They are running a full CBC panel. They'll call tonight with the results.

She instructed me to give him another dose of meds when I got back, wait 45 minutes and then see if he'll eat a teaspoon of the ID. So I'll try to feed him at 6:45.

    I hate waiting...

Oh Kimmy, of course you are worried. I'm so glad you took Chipper back in, though. Hopefully the vet can isolate the problem and get that boy feeling better soon.

Thank you for keeping us informed.

Kimmy, this doesn't sound good at all. Any chance Chipper could stay
over at the Vets for monitering? I'll keep you & Chipper in my prayers.

His blood protein levels are very low.

She mentioned long term intestinal issues and was hesitant to say it could be parvo but she didn't rule it out. She sounds like she wants to be optimistic and told me how she doesn't see parvo very often in adult dogs. But it's just not looking good.

She asked me to monitor him and bring him in for more Sub Q fluids at 9 a.m. She mentioned putting him on antibiotics. She also said he may need protein transfusions which he'd need to go to MSU for.... I'm not sure.... everything she said was such a blur.

Like she instructed I gave him his meds at 6 p.m. He refused the ID at 6:45 (she called just before I was going to give it to him). He then got me and went to the door at 6:50. More bloody diarreha. He vomited twice at 7.

I'm going to cook myself up some chicken and see if he's interested.

    My heart is breaking.

I know he's not a BC, but go to www.bcrescue.org/phpbb2/index.php and join. Post about this in the health section. There are many very intelligent rescue people who have seen it all and may be able to offer some advice or suggestions.

I'm praying for Chipper right now. I know of an adult dog that had parvo, but was able to quickly recover.

Ok I sent you a pm about this but I looked up some information on it and thought I would post it here. I will just cut and paste the real pertinant information

    Whipworms
Generally a dog's response to a whipworm infection is relatively mild, although exceptions do occur. Heavy infections can result in bouts of diarrhea and feces may be streaked with fresh blood. Young dogs or dogs with a chronic infection can suffer severe weight loss, dehydration due to diarrhea, and anemia.
Many dogs will carry infections of whipworms without much problem. Some dogs, however, will develop periodic smelly diarrhea which can become a severe problem. Large numbers of whipworms irritate the lining of your dog's intestine causing weight loss and pain. Whipworms are not dangerous to people, but once dogs become infected, whipworms are difficult to eliminate without medication programs. Large amounts of mucous are produced by the inflamed intestine. Sometimes hemorrhage into the intestine occurs and anemia can result. In very heavy infestions the worms may penetrate through the intestinal wall and the resulting inflammation causes the intestine to adhere to the body wall. Animals with this condition may frequently lick their right flank where the adhesion occurs.

Also, in dogs suffering from bloody diarrhea as a result of the infection, finding the eggs can be difficult.

A minimum of four fecal exams over a four-day period should be conducted before a negative diagnosis is made. Because of intermittent egg-shedding, a whipworm infection may not be correctly diagnosed. A follow-up exam may be necessary to rule out the possibility of infection.

Since the adult Whipworms may not lay eggs everyday, if your veterinarian performs a fecal flatation and looks for Whipworm eggs they might not be found. But the diarrhea keeps coming and going.

This is certainly not the report that we were all hoping for, Kimmy.

Obviously, Chipper is a very sick boy. Our prayers for him will continue.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he will get through this quickly. I understand what you are going through, we went through something similar when we adopted Dewey and he was sick.

What sucks the most is that he was fine for the first 4 days we had him, then the 5th day BAM! This happens. Now he's been sick for the next 4 days after Thanksgiving day.
