No accidents overnight and peed at 6 a.m. He's been gassy but no poop.
Got Chipper into the vet at 9 a.m. this morning. He's lost 3 lbs.
He doesn't have a fever and the vet could not detect any masses in his tummy or bowels. He was a little dehydrated so they gave him Sub Q fluids. They also gave him some meds (listed as Rapid Response on the invoice) and sent me home with a can of ID and some Loperamide (anti-diarreha) pills.
The Sub Q fluids really perked him up. He initiated play with Kia the moment we got home and happily took a piece of science diet jerky.
At this point the vet is treating it as an upset tummy either due to his new diet, the bit of turkey he got, or simply a doggie cold. If he doesn't start eating by Thursday they'll run blood tests and take X-rays.
I'm to see if he'll eat small bits of his normal crunchies first, but if not, I have the ID to try or I can give him chicken and rice.
Wish us luck!

I certainly hope & pray it's nothing "serious" ... but with symptoms repeating so often -
he really does seem to be "sick" in some way ...
I'd be asking for a complete Blood Study at the minimum ... and NOW - not on Thursday.
And since it's been brought up - and shouldn't be just ignored -
testing him for Parvo would seem prudent.

I sure HOPE it's just an upset tummy ...

This sounds just like what is happening to a Border Collie litter that a member of a board I'm on is fostering. Two have died. They are giving the same treatment, but the vet has no idea what's wrong.
I agree with Phred, why look into it later than sooner????

I sure hope the sub-q fluids help. I will continue to pray for that handsome boy.
The vets office is open until 7 and she said I can bring him back in tonight if he doesn't appear to improve or if he vomits.

I didn't see this thread until now but I saw your post on LJ-
I hope he's doing better. I'd get a blood panel ran on him too -
I know Kia is up to date but parvo isn't something to mess with. A good friend of mine lost her adult dobe years ago to parvo.

I hope chipper gets better real soon, Casey has a very sensitive stomach and has had a few episodes like this.
Once it was from a couple of pieces of pork chop.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
I miss you
I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

Oh no, I never checked back on this thread-I thought he was doing better. Did the vet say anything about parvo? I would seriously get him checked for parvo, judging from what the symptoms are. An unvaccinated dog, that gets only one parvo booster, and is possibly exposed to it in a shelter environment is VERY susceptible to it. The vet I worked at ALWAYS recommended 2-3 boosters for unvaccinated adult dogs as well as puppies.
Provided that's not the problem, hopefully it's just a bout of a GI irritation or something.
Get well soon, Chipper.
Edit: Maybe pancreatitis??
