I'm so sorry to hear that Chipper isn't feeling well. I hope that it isn't anything serious and that the vet will be able to help him. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way. Please continue to keep us updated about him.

    Kimmy,
Get him to the vet!!! All of these symptoms are classic signs of parvo. The incubation period is 14 days and until he has had 3 shots of the vaccine he is not fully protected and even then it's not a guarentee. I've seen perfectly healthy adult dogs who are fully vaccinated come down with because the virus mutated and they got a different strain.

Even with the water, he is losing electolytes, so will probably need sub Q fluids.

    Let us know!!

No accidents overnight and peed at 6 a.m. He's been gassy but no poop.

Got Chipper into the vet at 9 a.m. this morning. He's lost 3 lbs.

He doesn't have a fever and the vet could not detect any masses in his tummy or bowels. He was a little dehydrated so they gave him Sub Q fluids. They also gave him some meds (listed as Rapid Response on the invoice) and sent me home with a can of ID and some Loperamide (anti-diarreha) pills.

The Sub Q fluids really perked him up. He initiated play with Kia the moment we got home and happily took a piece of science diet jerky.

At this point the vet is treating it as an upset tummy either due to his new diet, the bit of turkey he got, or simply a doggie cold. If he doesn't start eating by Thursday they'll run blood tests and take X-rays.

I'm to see if he'll eat small bits of his normal crunchies first, but if not, I have the ID to try or I can give him chicken and rice.

    Wish us luck!
