So - if you treat your pet like a child then you must love it more?
I have a dog and a cat. I have never thrown a party for them, baked them a cake, given them "presents" or let them sleep under the covers with me.
I do, however, vet them, give them quality kibble, make sure that they get plenty of exercise and that they are always safe. My dog is trained. Maybe not quite as well as I would like but better then most of the rest of the dogs that I run into in my neighborhood.
I have to wonder when we stopped treating our pets like pets and started treating them like people. They aren't people. They don't think like people or act like people. I wonder if that is part of the reason that there are so many puppy mills and dogs being euthanized in shelters?
That's not what we're saying at ALL! Some people are different with our pets. On Curly's B-day we feed him half a twinkie, sing him happy birthday, and get him a present or two. He sleeps under the covers with his head on a pillow, and is treated like a human. To us he is my little brother and parent's son. lol I am not kidding I wish I were!!!![]()

My cat is my only family, I don't spoil him I just love him.![]()
I don't even have parties for my own birthday, so I would've been one of the ones who'd of voted no for throwing my dogs a party. They might get an extra cookie for their birthday or a new toy, but very rarely. They don't know it's their birthday, and they get tons of things throughout the entire year. I probably love my dogs jsut as much as anyone else on here though. However, I don't see throwing parties for your pet as absurd like a lot of people do. That being said, I do see what you're getting at.
