With brachycephalic breeds like pugs and french bulldogs it is fairly easy to pop their eyes out like that. Vet techs are taught to restrain brachycephalic breeds ' heads by scrunching the skin forward and grasping the head, because if you grasped their head like you would a breed with a normal nose and they struggled, they could pull the skin taut and pop their eyes out.
So no, I don't believe that it was anything wrong with the puppy, beside the fact that we humans have bred them with those bug eyes and all that loose skin which makes it easy for this to happen.
The puppy is lucky they caught it quickly, if it had been very long his eyes would have had to be amputated.
Even if he can't see, I'll bet the little guy will do very well.![]()
