Actually "pit bull" was not a term recognised until they started fighting them, which happened several decades after the birth of the breed. They were originally called "Staffordshire bull baiters," which also gave way to the AKC's changing of the American pit bull terrier's name to Staffordshire bull terrier.Originally Posted by LilacDragon
Oh, and I'm in complete agreement -- people-agressive dogs were culled by death. These were family dogs that slept in the children's beds.
