Okay this is what I use. My guys are huge, and jumping would easily place them over someones head.
I take the palms of my hands and when the dog is facing you, block his eye sight about a foot off his head. You are not moving quickly like a slap ( who would hit a dog anyway...) its like a block. The dog in order to see you, has to take a step back and regroup and when he does, praise in a low calm voice like " goooood boy" reallllllllly quiet in your voice with no energy. ONce this is taught. go stand at the door- your dog will get excited expecting you to open the door- do the same thing, once this is done, have someone ring the door bell but do not open the door until you get calm from your dog..
Now be consistant in this. Do not let the dog jump up on you during this process until he gets it, and even then its only a obvious invitation like patting your chest and calling the dog..
Also use a word like " off" not "get down" or "down". Down is down, off is off..
