I don't think they look uncomfortable or bad for the dog. I think it seems like it would be more odd and uncomfortable for the person carrying it.

I couldn't disagree more . It totally depends on the dog and where they are. I certainly don't see how it would instill poor social skills or jealousy aggression. They are still in a social setting, just not looking at people's ankles. My dogs often get more attention while in my arms because they are up and people don't have to get down to pet them. If my dogs want to be down, they they can be down. If they want to be up, they can be up. I'd never force one of my dogs to walk on the ground if they didn't want to.

I have this type of bag that I often use for Buster. Buster is lacking in social skills (he came to us from an abusive home, he's gotten a lot better, but still not great in new places/ with new people). He feels much more secure either in his bag or in my arms.
