Oh- that's a test! I suppose it would be easier if you went away.
Couldn't she care for Fister in your apartment when you are away. We always do that with our neighbors and we take care of their kitties. A cat in its own area is in a much better mood and she would get more cuddling out of Fister when she'd come to see him daily.

I have always had someone come IN to (my) the cats' home when I travel. I have never considered moving THEM. Cats are just so sensitive by nature. Only some of them accept change; change throws them into a panic more often. Having me gone is already a BIG DEAL in their world. So I keep them where they are settled and a neighbor stops in, a minimum of once a day, more often if the neighbor wants to. (my neighbor's son is 10 and thinks cats are REALLY neat; they own dogs.)

And I leave the alarm set on the clock radio - NOT for the alarm, but for the music on the radio. It comes on for about an hour, then resets to the next day. So they aren't in a silent household.

I won't be of very good advice because Peppito and Jasmine are used to travel with me (car, plane) and they enjoy staying in a new place as long as their purrents are with them

But I would say that the best would be to have your neighbour come in your, sorry, Fister's appartment instead. Or you could test before your holiday and let Fister go there for a day or a week-end while you are here and you can visit him sometimes.
Good luck for this new adventure

It went rather smooth. I packed his things and went in with them, then his litter box. Lastly, I went to get the transport box in the cellar and put it behind a cupboard in the kitchen. Fister was still sleeping on my bed and was not in the least suspicious.

Before this, I had defrosted a few fillets of white fish, so I went to cut them up.... and there came Fister. I quickly closed the door while Fister was eating the fish, sitting in the window. He found that very odd, but didn't freak out. So I grapped him and put him in the box - no bloodshed.

In her flat, he immediately went to check everything out, he miawed for while, but soon settled in the kitchen window. He even ate the rest of the fish I had brought, and he let my friend stroke him, sitting in the window. I'm sure he recognises the yard, and the scaffolds right outside

I stayed for about an hour. Although it's difficult for me not to look, we agreed that it is best I don't let him see me from the window, and I also closed it completely, so he doesn't hear the familiar sounds from my kitchen.

At the moment, he's laying in her window, sleeping. Do I dare go down with my laundry? I think the scaffolds will cover me.

    Randi,

You are such a great cat mom Always thinking about Fister's happiness first

Don't worry - he will be just fine. It sounds like your friend has a soft spot for that big orange boy. There's no way she would let him be anything but happy He will be coddled and well fed, just the way it should be. And the familiarity of his surrounds will likely be soothing for him.

Now, as for you, young lady ... please go off and have a wonderful vacation! You certainly deserve it.

    Enjoy!!
    Yours in Whiskers
