His injuries appeared to be worse than what Marty experienced, too, so, maybe that will help ease your mind. Dogs are resilient and I'm sure he's in good hands.
The yorkie I had when I was a kid was attacked by the neighbor's dobie and he made a full recovery too. He had stitches and a drainage tube in his side, but he was back to normal in no time. I'm sure Marty will be feeling better soon.
