    When ?

    Hey MOM (aka Gini) ...

    Do we know the Time of Release for Miz Slick?

    And HOW's she gettin HOME ?
    * with Friend Betty playing Chauffeur ?
    * or maybe Joel's gonna do the honors ?
    * or da Bus ?
    * or a Taxi ?
    * ride her Bike ?

    Hope she'n not planing to *walk*!

    Last tyme *I* was in the Whitecoat's Hangout ... they screwed around for
    6 hours
    before everyone "signed off" and wrote their discharge instructions.
    THEN they wanted me to *wait* for a "Wheelchair Transport Driver" to show up
    to haul my butt to the front door!
    My Guy Nurse asked if I wanted to go NOW? .... I said RIGHT Now!

    He gave me a choice - Long walk to and from the elevators ...
    OR we duck down the stairs and wind up in the lobby ...

    Seemed more like a Jail Break - but we skipped down the stairs as I phoned Pat & Joan to
    pull the get-a-way car up to the doors - THEY'd been waiting for over an hour!

    I pictured my Wheelchair Driver wandering the Fifth Floor ...Phred, Phred,
    has anyone seen a Phred?"

    LOL Phred! You had me cracking up - waiting for everyone to sign off and then having to wait for the wheelchair patrol can take hours! I'll never forget being released close to 9:00 p.m. after my mastectomy surgery because it took all day for everyone to sign off who had to sign off. I was ready for bed!

    Welcome home Slick! YAY! I'll post in the other thread too

    Well, Mr. Phred, I usually wait until after 7 PM to call her. Don't want her to miss out on her FABULOUS last hospital dinner, now do we? I think they serve it at about 6:15 - and my computer says 6:14 PM.

    I know some good friends are picking her up - they have been looking after her cat (Max) too.

    More after I talk to her.

    Well, it must be true - that she is going home - they came to take away the television while we were on the phone - and the guy was kind enough to give her an extra half hour on the phone.

    She is scheduled to be released at 10:00 AM and hopes to actually leave the hospital by 11:00 AM. She will see her surgeon for one last time in the morning at the hospital. Her friends will pick her up and help her carry her plants and goodies to the car. A friend dropped by this afternoon and had made her a large container of homemade chicken soup. Isn't that a thoughtful thing to do - she can have that for supper tomorrow night.

    Her last fabulous meal at the hospital was lentel soup and a plate of beef ravioli. Dessert was a half a canned pear. (she doesn't like sweets).

    She really is feeling better but still in some pain. The Dr. told her it would be about a month before that completely went away.

    Look for a post from her tomorrow night sometime from her HOME BASE!

    It has been a long way from there to here - but this is now behind her.

    Let the fun begin!

    Isn't that wonderful! A little more than 3 hours to go - Home, sweet home!! It will be SO good sleeping in her own bed.

    Nice of her friend to bring a container of chicken soup, that will come in handy, although I know she has a "few" things in her freezer - as organised as ever. LOL!

    I hope the pain will lessen rapidly and Max will cuddle her to sleep tonight.

    Happy homecoming!

    Can't wait to see her own post! .... but take your time, Slick!

    Time to start *Packin Up* for the Great Escape!

    Don't forget to take all the plastic "stuff" they put in your room - the
    "Stuff" they WON'T clean & reuse - just toss it with the trash between patients.
    (I'd watched "Housekeeping" (a slightly misnamed group of slackers and
    dirt repositioners) "clean up" after a roomie moved out ...
    and questioned why "All that Good Stuff was getting trashed?"
    Answer: "It's been *contaminated* by a patient.")

    I had quite a bag-full at checkout:
    * the flimsy plastic "wash basin" - I wound up with 2 I never knew I had -
    hidden in my chest-of-drawers table
    * the bag of Tooth Sponges - lil plastic sponges on a stick - imitation tooth brushes
    * tubes of "tooth paste" - glue-like substance to use with tooth sponge
    * lil jugs of "hair shampoo" - that never raised one bubble of lather
    * lil jugs of "body lotion" - watery but it DID work
    * boxes of tissues - musta got a new one every other day - quite a pile
    * hand soap bars - yep - new one every day in the bathroom with the towels
    * hospital-issue Slipper-Socks - wiffa non-skid rubber bars onna bottom - 2 pairs
    * Hair nets (2) - souvenirs from MRA & Cath labs - Ted E. Bear started wearin em
    * annnnd - the ever-popular tiny plastic Emesis Basin - 2 no less

    I didn't *swipe* any towels - they weren't Monogrammed.

    Well, Happie Packing - as Mom always said - "Open ALL the drawers a second time
    to double-check you haven't forgotten anything!"

    SAFE Trip - We'll ya at Home!

    Ya, I hope you got a lot of "Plastic silver ware and napkins that included the Mrs Dash), and all those large plastic bags with the draw strings too.

    Slick, I hope your pain lessens with every new day at home. The main thing is that you catch up with your rest. Dr. Pete and Max will be there for you.

    Take your time in posting on Pet Talk , We can wait as long as it takes .

    Glad to hear that you are Coming HOME!!!!!
