i dont have to wake him up at 3:00 in the morning to go out...he's already WIDE awake and on the verge on pee'ing!! he's the type of puppy that wont make a sound until it's almost too late...last minute sorta thing! but he's getting alot better, he sleeps through the nite now but he needs to go out about 6:00 every morning, sometimes earlier...sometimes later...just depending!

Keep him on a leash with you indoors at all time so he is never unsupervised. You are aware when he is awake, you know when he takes a drink, and he won't be able to wander off to get to the couch to have an accident on it.

If you are away or out of the house (even for just five minutes to check the mail) or asleep at night, crate him.

He needs to be supervised. Where are you (or your parents) when he jumps up on the couch? He needs supervision.

well i am sitting right next to him when he is on the couch...my parents are another story!! They live in Connecticut...and in another town....soooo their supervision is necesarrily on them at all time BUT....i only let them on the furniture because i dont mind...the couch is old and been through alot of good years and it doesnt matter if it gets ripped or torn...scratched and such...im not saying "HEY PEE ON MY COUCH IT'S OKAY" but you know what i mean! i let the dogs sleep on the couch....they usually only use it as that, never anything more...unless they get really excited while running through the house but normally it's just a second bed to them while i am home! He's doing so well though im so proud of him....he only pee's when he gets excited (when someone comes home) and it's only small spots...but im kinda thinking it's sorta when a child pee's the bed...they just dont realize they are doing it until last minute, which seemed to be the case while cainan pee'ing on my couch when he was still half asleep! thanks for your input!

Him being a puppy though, I think you should still keep him on a leash and keep him with you while you are inside and crate him when you can not supervise him. It will keep him out of trouble, it will help keep him from having accidents or getting into things he shouldn't. :P

Remember. when training a dog, it's usually US who need to be trained nad not the dog :P

I would suggest trying to take him to a dog behaivorist.....or any other of the suggestions that have been made. Good luck with breaking his bad habit!!

I'm basically going to repeat what other people said.

Keep him leashed with you at all times. If that's not possible, keep him in his crate. Do not allow him on the couch if he keeps peeing on it. The second he gets on the couch, tell him OFF and nudge him to get off. Be consistent about it... he'll get the point soon enough. How old is he? He looks to be old enough to be able to sleep through the entire night without peeing. Make sure the crate is only large enough for him to be able to turn around in it, stand up, and lay down comfortably. Make sure to take him outside right before bed time so he can last through the night. Good Luck with training him.
