It is a common myth that a name says something about the owner and even influences the owner. So most names of e.g. biblical origin have a meaning and it is usually positive.
Although I know that is not true in a pure scientific sense I think it has a cultural value.
I wanted Tigris to have a proud name and Filou a mischievous name.

A cat named Hitler or a hamster called Stalin? I would think this would make the original bearers of these names sound harmless. So I wouldn't ever do that.

I would have a hard time doing that as I love all of my pets dearly and simply could not name the object of my love something with a distasteful connotation. Growing up, a friend of mine had a black lab named Devil. I was only a little girl but can remember feeling sorry for the dog for having such a name.
