Hi everyone, I talked to Slick between 5 - 6 this evening. She had just received some pain medication so she was in rare form!

As Laurie told you, she had a bad night - and at 5 AM she was wide awake so got up and started organizing things. The only thing I could think of to say was "OMG, you didn't clean the room did you?" It would be just like her.
No, she got out her box of cards that Naomi had brought and quietly read each one again. She said she was reduced to tears.

Her breakfast was awful - her lunch was good - spaghetti and meat sauce - her Mom ate the chocolate pudding, because Slick doesn't like sweets. She wasn't sure what dinner would bring.

Her Mom came today (in the pouring rain) and spent the afternoon with her.
It takes her mom 45 minutes and two buses each way to get to the hospital. And she is 82. It is very clear that Slick's stamina is genetic!

She cannot have the chest tube removed until Friday at the earliest because it is still draining. If it is removed then - it is possible that she will be able to go home on Saturday or Sunday. She feels once that is removed that her healing will be much more rapid and the pain will diminish considerably.
They did change her medication and she can have it more frequently - so once again, I hope she has a good or better night than last.

Her surgeon's assistant and many resident doctors came to visit her this morning - and all I will share is that they gave her a round of applause.

She is walking three times a day now - showing off those slippers I bet!!

Noah's Mommy (Kelly) called her this evening and that cheered her up a lot.

All she kept saying to me was "don't worry" = yeah, easy for her to say!!

She did sound the best I have heard her sound though..........so I am very optimistic.

But continued prayers are important - we want her completely healthy and down here cleaning my house for the BBQ - and not some hospital room! (she will kill me for saying this)

    Hey Gini if your telling her to relax, things are definately getting back to normal. Take care Slick...hopefully those new meds and increased frequency will let you finally get a good nights sleep. {{HUGS}}

Thanks so much for the update! Hopefully she'll get that chest tube out soon. I really don't know how she stands it. I know it must be horribly uncomfortable. That is great that her mom came to visit. I can't believe all she had to go through just to get there. I hope she's feeling a lot better soon.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

Thanks Gini and Laurie for all of the updates. I hope that Slick will sleep much better tonight and that she'll be able to have her nasty chest tube removed very soon so she'll be able to go home and sleep in her own bed. I also look forward to seeing her at next years LA BBQ.

Ok Gini, so if Slick can beat you up for what you said we'll know she is ok.
Sounds as if things are going slowly though- we won't uncross these paws, tails and fingers
