    Both, I think you have to have both in CA, but I'm not sure.

    Texas requires both front & rear plates.

    In Alberta, you're required to have one (on the rear) and if you want two, then it's up to you. Personally, I think it should be law everywhere to have one on the front and the back..

    Both ends in CA - they want to be able to catch your license plate in the cameras when you run a red light

    Both. I always wondered why some places only have rear. If someone's gonna hits you, you usually don't see the back of the car untill it's too late.

    Both here!
    I had a Camaro a few years back and the front end looked too cool to put a license plate on it. So I didn't! 4 years later I got a ticket for it. $60!
    Ouch! PLUS.... I couldn't find the other plate, so I had to buy another set! $60. Double Ouch!
    Yeah, I kept a plate on the front after that!
