compelling picture?

Any of the icon photos of the September 11th bombings. Any of the recent photos from the Israeli/Hezbollah war that shows a civilian in anguish. Those are guaranteed "compelling." A wildlife photo of parent and offspring ... and photo that instantly makes you feel some emotion.
