I heard that this morning, too. I had hoped that wouldn't happen.

Oh no.... I hope they will be ok...
Oh goodness....I hope they are able to get them back out into the ocean...they do look closer to the water in this picture than yesterdays...hopefully that'll help.
...RIP, our sweet Gini...
I am so sorry to hear that, I hope they can get them back to sea.

Oh, that makes me so sad.... Poor things. I wish we knew more about them, to help them and understand them more....
Aw, Geez....
I know the rescuers are doing the best they can
I just read the link, what a sad day to see those helpless whales on the shore like that. Do they say what caused them to beach themselves?
Jackie
Sad and getting Sadder. They had to put several of them to sleep. 23 did rally and were able to get back out into open water. It's a 'wait and see' situation. It's heart breaking!
So very sad!! I heard at work about the re-stranding. By the time I got home from there were 'live" pictures on the local news. Some were showing the actual euthanization, stressing that it was done to relieve their suffering. The volunteers were so devastated. We hope and pray the ones that were spared will not strand themselves again.
Jackie, they are performing necropsys on those that perished in hopes of getting an answer. They all seem to follow the lead whale. He or she may have been searching for food and lost her sense of direction or been ill. As of now, they are not sure.
