Corgis and Shelties can be nippy but if you got it as a puppy then it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know enough about Whippets to tell you if they are good with children, but I would imagine so.
But, in all honesty, I think adopting an adult dog is your best bet. The shelter or rescue group you get it from should help you determine if the dog is good with kids. If they don't know, try a different rescue group. An adult will make an easy transistion into your home and be a great companion for you and your child.Trying to juggle a 7 month old and a puppy could be a huge challenge.
