I don't know the A700, but does it have a spot mode? My S2 has it, and it helps a lot with macros.

I've found using zoom with macro WILL make it blurry.
If you use macro, make sure you have GOOD LIGHTING, it looks as though you took the picture indoors without flash, that will make it blurry. Try outdoors, or use flash!
Also sometimes too close is not good. If it still comes out blurry, back away A LITTLE bit, then try again.

The G6 isn't a point and shoot camera though (correct me if I'm wrong?). I don't have a digital SLR to test the theory on, but I DO have a Canon, and my experience with the point-and-shoot cameras is zooming with macro will make it blurryOriginally Posted by Russian Blue
