Your post melted my mind, because, deep in my memory, I remember a Goldfish that I bought for my daughter, a long time ago.

It lived for quite sometime, teaching her how to care for another thing, other than herself.

When she noticed it , floating on top of the water, she was devastated!!!

This was back in the late 70's,so you know how old this memory really is.

And, I thought I had forgotten it, till now.

I held a funeral for her and her Goldfish, and , I do remember finding her outside, a few days later, my little 6 year old child, kneeling beside the grave that I arranged for her, praying. I felt her loss, and , I feel yours now too.
