Over 1000 to do it yourself? Ar eyou sure? The materials all look like stuff you can get from a hardware store for pretty inexpensive. Maybe its just the pump that costs a lot of money??
In any case if it would cost that much to build it yourself, getting one for 350 is a STEAL!

Most betta breeders I've talked to said theirs cost over $1000 to make. The pictures don't show all the equipment though. The beanie cases alone are pretty expensive. :\
