Ah, but do you pronounce it TaMARuh or TAMuhruh? I've known both!

I not only answer to any variations on my name, but all permutations of my sister's name as well - we had the same 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade teachers.

Lovely photos. So the pH of the lake is okay, just its depth is un-fish-worthy?

Neither actually! Pronounced Tam-air-uh..Just to further complicate things, my parents let my ticked of 10 year old brother name me and he decided to not give me a middle name! My full first name is TamaraLyn--one word, no hyphen, capital L in the middle!

I think the water is fine--a little grungy and cold for swimming, but it does seem to grow weeds and water bugs well! The birds certainly look well fed and the beavers have successful litters every spring! The lake is a closed system--it's not fed by a river or anything. If there was some moving water it might support fish better.

WHAT do the Beavers do for entertainment??

I was always taught that Beavers HAD to have "running water" in their lakes -
to give them a "Project" to work on ... to *stop* the moving water.

Beavers - Mother Nature's Construction Engineers

Years ago I volunteered at a little Sports Car Road Racing Course -
wound for 2 miles through the woods - beside a creek.

One fall Maw & Paw BEAVER moved in and built a Summer Cottage and
    a lil pond...
Well, OK ... welcome to da Hood ...

Next year the KIDS needed a place... another pond and several more "Houses"
    appeared... Ooooh-Kaaay...

Next year the GRAND-Kids needed places...
THIRD Level of Lakes appeared -
    with MORE "Houses"... Hmmmmm ???

Spring Rains arrived... The Waters ROSE!
The Track was FLOODED for a quarter mile!
    THIS was NOT Good!

    The BEAVER WAR was declared!
Work Parties all Spring - Man vrs BEAVER!
We sacked, burned & pillaged on Saturdays & Sundays.
    They *watched*

By Tuesday Afternoons the damages we wrought were repaired - water
flow was a mere trickle, and the water was again lapping over the
    Race Track. They *smiled*
    WE pouted & Fumed!

    Races were cancelled...
A Friend agreed to bring in a MONSTER Track-Hoe Excavator...
Three days of Mechanized War reduced their Three-Level Lake system to
a mere *trickle* of free-flowing creek.
The Track-Hoe crawled up on it's low-boy and went home...
The Humans & Racers were Happie

A week later the Waters Rose AGAIN...
In two weeks we were FLOODED ...
They "smiled" and paddled about "Their" Lakes.

The only thing that seemed to work was if we LEFT the Track-Hoe
*parked* near the dams - the Beaver Army usually only did minor
repairs if the Mechanical Monster remained in sight. Load it up
to send it off to a Paying Job for it's owner - and the 4-Pawed Army
sprang into action and had the Race Track
    flooded again within a WEEK!

    Final Resolution?
A MONTH's worth of MAJOR Excavating!
We "deepened" the creek by about 8 feet - and piled ALL the dirt
between the Track and the creek - we built our OWN Dam!
    (A Quarter Mile's worth!)

The Beaver Army then rebuilt THEIR Dams on the "other side" -
deep enough to "Keep em Happie" but overall low enough to
    keep "our" Race Track dry!

They are pretty amazing creatures aren't they! Last summer, a beaver dam broke in a small lake near here. Drained it almost over night! The beavers had their dam rebuilt in a day or two and the lake was back in a week!

My Dad has on ongoing battle with beavers on a golf course he helps at. The beavers think the little creek running through it should be a big lake! Dad thinks the 8th green should not be a water hazard!
