Orcalover, I am so sorry to hear your hen was egg bound & they had to put her to sleep. When they do become egg bound there is not much a person can do but find an avian vet asap. I keep my hen flighted & she just laid another 5 eggs. It will make 20 eggs now since the end of January for her. When they are flighted they use some of those muscles to help them push the eggs out. She will sit on these eggs & maybe lay at least another clutch before she goes into her August molt. The molt is the only thing that stops her egg laying until January. I will have had her 7 years in August & we go through this egg laying every 6 months then the molt & then six months of no egg laying.
Omgosh Im so sorry your bird has passedyou did and asked what you could and It was just time for your bird to go.
Im so sorry but dont give up there always more birds who shall need help and aniamls its what I learned I have seen so many deaths with birds that iv learned just to move on but I never forget a bird I loose there always in a speacail spot in my heart.
