Theobromine is the component of chocolate (naturally occurring) which causes harm to pets in large amounts. It is not an additive, it's natural.

Funny, until I saw this on snopes I had never even heard of that type of mulch, everything available at Lowes or Home Depot around here is cedar mulch.
