I think I noticed in one of your earlier posts that you are battling depression. Is this correct? If so, a pet is one of the smartest things you can do for yourself because you learn to refocus your thoughts away from yourself and to another being. My two labs have been my savior since losing my mother 2 years ago. They keep my mind on something other than my sadness.
As far as supplies for your dog, I'd suggest a good healthy dog food with as few additives and preservatives and you can find. If you have a pet store near you they can help you out. In the long run, although they may be more expensive than store bought, you don't have to feed as much due to the lack of fillers so the cost balances out quite nicely.
My dogs are crate trained and they do beautifully with it. They sleep in them at night and often go to them during the day when they're inside with me. They have their own pillows, sheets and toys inside are set to go. I spray the crate once a week and clean the sheets regularly for flea control.
Good luck with your new venture of being a pet owner. It's one of the smartest things you'll ever do for yourself.
