    I sent in for my permit on April 29th and still not received anything. Gettiing a bit worried. I e-mailed the dog park to see if they can tell me anything.

    Hmm, that is a bit odd. I sent my application in on May 1st, and received my pass on Monday (May 8th). But I did tell them that I needed it for an event at the end of the month, so they may have expedited my request.

    I'm planning all my routes today and noticed that all mapquest, google & yahoo maps are all one hour from each other. They say anywhere from 6 hours 47 minutes to 8 hours 52 minutes, from my house to the motel in Findlay. Thats quite a big difference don't ya think? The routes are all pretty similar too. I always knew they each had their own quirks but I've never seen them vary this much before, ever & I use them all the time. Maybe I'll stick to my old fashioned ways & use the good old USA Atlas.

    Sue, I've always found mapquest to be more reliable.

    It seems to be updated more often than Yahoo. With yahoo, they had use going all around town to get somewhere. It took us about a hour to get thru town and to where we wanted to go. On our way back we realized we could have gotten on the highway right next to our hotel and been there in 10 minutes.

    I compared MapQuest and Google from Macedon to the Dog Park.

    Overall distance was a 2 mile difference;
    MapQuest said you could do it in 6 hours + 50 minutes = average of 58 mph;
    Google said to allow 8 hours = average of only 50 mph.

    They each pick a different way to get through Cleveland and the western suburbs -
    and there's no "good way" to do that! MapQuest puts you on the Ohio Turnpike
    (toll road) a little sooner. Final approach for both is Fremont > Fostoria > Findlay.

    I'd trust MapQuest on the TIME estimate - I think Google must be planning
    for a long lunch stop!

    Either route will get you there; and as long as you're not traveling in weekday
    rush hours, Cleveland is "crowded" but not impossible to drive through.

    A couple cautions:
    *WATCH* the Interstate signs - Cleveland has several "Look-Alike" routes >>>
    Interstates 80 (Ohio Turnpike) and 90 - (from northern PA and NY) - they are
    seperate and far apart in the east, then combine on the Turnpike in western Ohio.
    BOTH I-80 and I-90 are referenced on signs near and in Cleveland.
    Interstates 480 and 490 - BOTH in downtown Cleveland!!
    Try telling the difference on a sign at 65 mph!!
    Interstates 71 and 77 - again - BOTH in downtown Cleveland!
    Easy to read them incorrectly at speed.

    And - Please - Everyone - Drive SAFELY!

    Ohio will have EXTRA State Troopers out & about ALL weekend ~
    *Watching* for speeders!!
    Five over the posted limit is usually OK - TEN and over and they
    usually wanna "talk" to ya!

    And be CAREFUL in Work Zones!!
    Ohio tries to clean them up for Holidays and reduce or eliminate
    lane closures ...
    **IF** the reduced speed signs are COVERED with black baggies -
    normal speeds are allowed ...
    BUT if the Work Zone Speed Limit signs are showing -
    they are INFORCED! ~ *Even if* there isn't a "worker" in sight!!

    Troopers ride in "marked" all-White or all-Golden/Copper cars;
    AND - if the weather is nice - there will be a couple "Bears in the AIR" -
    State Troopers flying small AIRPLANES and checking speeds on the Interstates
    and the Turnpike - you'll never "see" him till it's way too late!!
    Sheriffs ride in all-Black "marked" cars;
    "Local PD's" can be in anything - some are NOT "marked".
    Turn-Right-on-Red is allowed (after a FULL Stop) unless posted "NO Turns" at the intersection.

    Have a Safe Trip!!

    I saw the 2 mile difference and the different routes too but didn't notice the suggested speed limit. That must be where they get the extra hour or so.

    Thanks for the tips!

    The Mapping Sites don't openly suggest or show "suggested speeds" -
    those averages are from me dividing the total miles by their estimated times -
    gives overall average miles per hour.

    The Mappers DO try to calculate the time based upon their understanding of the
    allowed speed limit on each small section of the route - dunno how they factor in
    things like traffic lights or Stop signs.

    For sure MapQuest does NOT figure in any gas or potty stops!

    I put a sticky note on mine as someone did suggest. Hopefully it comes soon.

    Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get your permit. I totally forgot to send this is and won't be able to until Saturday when I make copies. Is this enough time to receive the permit by the 28th?

    Keep a photocopy of everything you send (so you can bring it with you just in case), AND put a note that you need the pass by the 28th, they're sometimes quicker than others when they know it's a big deal from what I've heard.
