Oh Logan I agree with you completely! I can't understand this either. How do people do this? The looks, especially the EYES, of the pup in the photo is just breaking my heart. Oh how I would love to give that pup lots of love and hugs and cuddles. So precious!

    Thank you, Logan

Thanks for the link - That is the saddest picture. If people feel the compulsion to "pack rat" (and I am guilty of that, just ask Dadcat) keep it to non-living things. Thank God people who see these conditions report them, and we live in a society that acts on them. Willful neglect is criminal, and immoral. Thanks again - all we can do is spread the word and keep our eyes open when these situations come to light.

I don't understand why someone would want an animal and then treat them neglectful. There was good news in the article though. It was nice to hear that local groomers were going to clean the dogs up free of charge. Perhaps a vet will step forward now to give medical attention.

Oh Logan, that's horrible! I, too, will never understand, how people could do this. Poor dogs!

This is an illness, we've talked about it before, here. Animal "collectors" are also hard to rehabilitate, because they don't feel they've done anything wrong. This is an unusual case in that it was a couple, not just one person involved.

It IS very sad. Those poor babies!

Can you find that discussion or direct us to it? Was it the "loneliness" factor? I knew of some "semi-collectors" and am interested, for future reference.

    Animal Collectors

Thank you for the links, Karen. In the second link in Karen's post, an excellent suggestion was made and I wonder if it's ever been promoted? It was posted by Carrie on 20 Dec 2000 under PetTalk/Dog/Dog General/You will not believe this story. She suggests that people who are found hoarding/collecting animals be sentenced to service in an Animal Rescue Center, or the equivalent. That would actually provide the education, therapy and "punishment" needed to help these people get back on track. Anyone know if such a legislation has ever been put forward anywhere?

Like the rest of you I cannot fathom that these people could not see what a detriment their living conditions were for these animals. To acquire this many dogs and not care about the conditions in which they lived is unthinkable. This is so depressing. Also I wonder how come such a situation didn't come to light sooner. People need to get involved if it is only to make that anonymous phone call.

So sad . I'll never understand how people can hurt other living things in such horrible ways. Poor pups .

I, like everybody else, can't understand how people could be so mean. There was a very interesting article in the Parade section of the Hartford Courant today about the difference between illness and evil and how many horrible deeds are justified these days under the guise of "illness." Evil is something people CHOSE to do and should be punished accordingly.
I can't look for a link to the article right now but I'll post it as soon as I have a chance.

    Albea,

I would be very interested in seeing that article when you
get the chance to give us a link to it.

Chances are if the couple "bonded out" for 2,000 apiece,
they will try to flee the area. I would also bet that they
sold puppies. I'm glad these poor animals were found in
    time to help them.

I agree Logan... I'll never understand.

I just step on Kia's paw accidentally and if she yelps, I burst into tears.
