Yes, I've heard of it. It's called feline acne. My Sunny has a bad case of it right now and all of my cats eat out of stainless steel bowls. I wash them after every meal with hot water and antibacterial soap. Storm also has a mild case. I've been washing their chins with antibacterial soap and applying a hot compress to it. It keeps coming back though.

Pearl had a bad case a few weeks ago and she had 3 whiteheads on her lower lip. I applied a hot compress to it a few times and everything cleared up. Sunny has always had the black spec kind and his comes and goes. I think it might also be stress related because he stresses very easily. He's going to the vet this Saturday for his annual exam so I'm going to ask the vet what he recommends for his acne.

Here's a link about feline acne: feline acne.

AHA! Thanks, KAK! Mishi is exhibiting the "black speck" kind - I'd never seen it before as my Goldie used to get little pink pimples kind. I wasn't sure WHAT he had, but figured it was kitty acne as it responded quickly to the usual treatment. I learn something new almost every day here on PT!

I took Sunny to the vet today for his annual exam and asked the vet about his feline acne. He prescribed an ointment called Bactoderm. It's actually a dermatologic ointment for dogs but it can also be used on cats. He said that his cat had feline acne much worse than my Sunny's and that the Bactoderm cleared him up. I have to apply to the affected areas 2 times a day for 5 days. I'll let you know how it works.

Allen had it so bad last winter that he basically had one big open wound on his chin and lost all the fur on his chin. I washed it daily with rubbing alcohol but things made a huge turn-around once I learned its safe to use Stridex pads (those acne cleansing pads made for humans). He cleared up right away once I started using them.

Here my Allen is as it just started to develop - see the black specs?

Here he is last spring as it was finally clearing up -- that looked good compared to what it looked like previously.

At the time, I was certain it would never clear up and that his chin would be sore and pussy forever. It did go away, after persistent cleaning. He hated me for a long time and ran from me when he saw me approaching, but I had to get his chin clean! Now I do periodical chin checks on Allen and only once in a while will I find anything. I swear he knows I check his chin just to make sure it doesn't return bcause he's sooooo sweet and tolerant while I check.
