BC Mom, Laura is a cook on a boat(barge?) on the Mississippi. She works 28 days on, 28 days off.

Just thought of something, Laura, if you're leaving tomorrow, that must mean the "kids" are already gone? I can only imagine how hard that is for you to leave them every month, but knowing they're in good hands has to really put your mind at ease. I saw the thread on Samantha's baby but haven't had time to keep up with it, did her mom come pick her up?

Bridgett's "Mom" never showed up or even called... not even today. I am really believing she dumped her here herself and my bet she is pregnant and ready to have kittens AGAIN (3rd or 4th litter). MIke is going to try to set the trap and catch her, then keep her in a large cage he has outside until I get back... THEN, I will have only about 28 days to get her all done (vet) and find a home for her...(wish me LUCK!) IF he can catch her..

I talked to the manager and he said he has traps set all the time and if he catches her, she goes to the pound. I begged him not to do that, take her to Mike so he can keep her until I get home, then I will get her vetted and find her a home.. I HOPE!

BC, this is the boat I work on, a work boat that pushes barges. Crew of 9 to 10, I cook 3 meals a day for 28 days. Then I come home and sit on my butt and eat take out for 28 days!

I will miss seeing your posts, and your responses to all my questions. It must be very hard to leave your cats for 4 weeks at a time but I expect you take photographs with you? I hope everything is plain sailing for you.

PS - like you don't have enough to do - but could you give Mike the manager's contact info and he can touch base with him too?

I had been wondering what type of work you did on the river, sounds like a great job.

is it that time again? My dad drives a big ship and it gets annoying not seeing him too often, Im trying to convince him to take me out to sea with him and do correspondence for school work.

I hope your cats are happy cats and their wave you goodbye!
    happy sailing!

I love my precious kittens and I hope they have long and happy lives filled with love.

Cats and dogs arent pets, theyre family members that need the same respect as humans. Would you dump your children out in the countryside to fend for themselves??

Gee, thanks Phred, I didn't think of posting that picture of my gally and all the stats on the boat.

Yes, my babies went to Kevlin's Sunday and Chester went to Rie's yesterday. That is the hardest... Having to leave my babies. That is the part of my job that I just hate and it gets harder and harder to leave them. I can't wait to get back home to get them back!

I set the trap again last night with some real stinky can cat food in hopes of catching Bridgette. I will check it later when it is lighter outside. I hate to leave knowing she is out there all alone wandering around. Poor girl.
