More exercise and mental stimulation. When you're not home, give him an interactive toy like a Kong with peanut butter or thsoe toys where you roll it to get a treat. You can never have too much socialization.

Work on teaching him a sit/stay command. He can't run out the door if he's sitting.

A brush up on basic obedience and teaching him the "wait" and "ok" commands should help. The NILIF program is a great way to introduce the concept that he has to wait for your ok before doing something. You can consider trying one of those collers that shock the dog when it barks...it's kind of mean but i think it works. My dog is exactly the same way, i get him to sit before i put him in the backyard and I tell him "okay" but when he goes outside, he goes crazy. He runs all around the yard barking at everything, cars, the neighbours, whatever the case happens to be. We just got the shock coller but i think it was out of batteries or something. But our neighbour said he had a jack russel that was like that and the coller worked for his dog. Hope this helps!

No don't use a shock collar. You don't need to do anything to cause your dog pain or to zap it to train it. It's rediculous. Work on the sit and stay commands. Use treats and praise as rewards. You can leash him and help him learn to sit quietly by the open door and then graduate to doing it leash off after practice. Never let him get in front of you as you answer or open the door. Train him that he has to sit back from it as you open it and apporach it only if you tell him it's okay to. It takes time and patience by my dogs learned it and they can be high energy too. Also a daily walk and good exercise, as well as mental stimulation, will help burn off the excess energy, and make him better able to focus on training.

I had this problem with Bandit he was so excited all the time he was a 100 miles a minute and i used to take him down to the field and just run he would go for hours and he would come home and sleep

Sorry i don't mean to offend you by using the shock collar because i think it is quite mean as well. We've tried the sit and stay commands and praise rewards and treats but nothing has worked for us thats why we were going to try the shock collar as a last resort.
