ok this weekend iŽll start the betta hunt , so iŽve got the tank, iŽve got gravel and decoration stuff, but is it better a real plant on the tank and what food is better cause iŽve got what my bro uses, also got water conditioners, ph balancers and something you use when getting new fish in a tank, i could use all of the above, but what do you recommend me...........

Real or silk plants are good I tend to use silk just cause I somehow manage to kill all my plants.

What kind of food does your brother use? The easiest food to feed are pellets. Hikari makes excellent pellets (and bloodworms too!) Frozen bloodworms are another favorite around here. Don't bother with flakes though. Not one of my bettas will eat that stuff.

All I really use is water conditioner and aquarium salt. If your PH is really out of wack, go ahead and use the PH balancer. But if it's pretty close to 7, there's no need. I don't like using extra chemicals when I don't need to.

No worries! I love helping out other betta addicts!

My babies LOVE baby brine shrimp! I've heard adults like brine shrimp too but I've never tried it with mine. You should be okay with BW and BS. My adults get BWs 90% of the time and they're all in tip-top shape! I have the pellets here more for convenience sake. When I'm too lazy to thaw on BWs, I just throw in a couple pellets.

Pet store bettas are generally 6 months+ when you get them. Go with your instincts. Generally, a happy, healthy betta will flare, not be lethargic, have clear eyes and not have an suspicious looking spots on them (I'm talking about things like white, salt-like looking spots.. not their coloring =P). A bubblenest is usually a good indicator of a happy betta.
