Oh gosh, Laurie, I'm so sorry.

From personal experience with my parents, the broken bones will heal and are not critical, it's the internal injuries they need keep under control if he is going to make it. Those innards and brain and spine are the most important and it sounds like good news on most of those fronts....

Good thoughts and most definitely prayers going out for Steve, his family and friends and you. Hang in there because it sounds like the family needs you.
