    Oh Angie, I'm so sorry. Death is hard enough without it being done on purpose. I will keep you and this family in my thoughts and prayers. {hugs}

    Angie - I am sorry, it must be a tremendous shock and it probably seems unreal to you now. I hope the grandmother and daughter can find comfort in each other.

    This very nearly happened to me. I was seconds away from dying when I woke up very suddenly (most unlike me). I turned my head very slowly, some instinct told me to do this, to see my husband standing beside the bed with his gun in his hand. I just looked at him, silently, calmly. He broke down and begged me to help him. Months later, after seeing a psychiatrist, he admitted that he'd planned the murder suicide for several months. Even now, over 20 years later, it all seems so unreal. I knew he was depressed and had been encouraging him to seek help to no avail. Often, the people closest to those who are in such trouble are the ones least able to help.

    There are many, many reasons why this came so close to happening, though the central reasons were not hatred or revenge. When people reach this type of decision, their reasoning is so cut off from reality that stopping it from happening is nearly impossible. It's incredible how planned out it is and no-one realizes what is going on in their mind. I loathe it when they involve children also, but they are, apparently, trying to protect them.

    I'm not a religious or philosophical or sentimental type of person. I don't believe in angels or miracles. But, I must admit that when I look back on that day (which is rare), I always wonder if my mother, who died when I was a toddler, somehow guided me in waking up when I did, and responding as I did.

    Angie this is one of the saddest things I have ever read. I will pray for their remaining daughter. She is going to need lots of love and support after the way her world has been turned upside down. I can't even imagine....

    Years ago a co-worker of mine was murdered. Someone who had been hired to paint the interior of his home broke into his house at night and was in the midst of a burglary when my co-worker woke up and confronted him. The creep shot him. I had been talking with him on a Friday afternoon at work and he was dead by midnight Friday night. I was upset terribly for months after that so I know you will be too. (((((hugs)))))

    Lizzie my heart breaks for you that you had to experience such horror! Thank God you woke up and your husband had a moment of sanity and was able to put that gun down.

    Latest news: The husband (the shooter) is still in critical condition and has 2 bullets lodged in his brain, both are self inflicted. How he shot himself twice in the head… I don’t know. He does not have much brain activity. His family has signed waivers for him not to be restated or to be put on a ventilation machine if he stops breathing. When my co-worker and her daughter were found, they very much looked like they were still sleeping, doesn't look like either suffered.
    To make things worse (if they can get worse) her remaining daughter who works with me also, and is 22 has a 5 month old daughter. My co worker had just become a grandmother for the first time.

    Lizzie... I'm sorry if this brought up bad memories. I truly believe your mom woke you up that day!
