I'm just curious.. aren't the cropped ears supposed to be taped and posted so that they develop and grow erect instead of flopped over? That is always what I saw when I was involved in showing my collie.

I was wondering that too. For boxers the ears don't stand unless posted and taped and for some, depending on the ear leather, this could take almost a year, some stand in a few months, but to show him don't they need to be posted once they have been cropped? I read that Danes don't need to be cropped for showing, but if it's already been done by the breeder I thought it needed aftercare? I found that link below in case you didn't know about the posting thing but I don't think they will stand unless you post them, once they have been cropped but I'm sure there are other methods, such as with moleskin etc, that you can find.Originally Posted by K9soul

Awww...your baby is adorable! All your pups are cute.
What cuties.![]()
I was concerned about the ears as well. I've never seen a cropped dogs ears heal droopy, the whole point in cropping them is to make them erect. They usually have metal braces for them as well as the tape.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.
for the first week you have to keep the ears with this tape on it. they are flopping, but there are oozing scabs on the ears. you don't want to put sticky tape over freshly cut ears. i clean his ears 2-3 times a day and stretch them about 10 times a day to keep the scabs open. if i don't stretch the ears those scabs can become nasty scars. i'm going to start taping the ears "standing" tomarrow. no worries the ears will be standing.![]()
