Same thing with thread AND Christmas icecicles. I was making cage curtains and my kitty (RB Marina Mar) got a hold of some thread. She was scooting her butt on the carpeting and I found a long piece of it coming out her tushy. I gently pulled it (which you're NOT supposed to do) until it stopped. Then I rushed her to the vet. It cost me $60 but fortunately there was no harm done.
