You are absolutely correct about the "top cat" issue. Jones is the dominant male in our house - he's got some pics under "My Kitties". The dominant female WAS Grey Girl, and as you said, everyone accepted it and we had no power struggles. However, she now lives with my parents, so since she left, these two have been in competition. I think the real problem stems from the fact that neither one is really "top cat", so there's no balance to find. Like you said, we tried to help show the heirarchy respect, but neither was willing to accept placement. Ugh.
