    Here's a shelter idea:

Several years ago, I "found" an abandoned cat that I couldn't bring in, either. I created a shelter from the cat carrier. I put it on my patio, placed lots of towels inside, and an old rubber-backed throw rug over the top. Oh, I wrapped cardboard in a plastic garbage sack and placed it under the carrier to help prevent the cold coming up from the patio.

I put a bowl of food in it and immediately she knew it was for her! She went right in and lived there, protected from the snow, until I found her a home. (Except when it got too cold, I moved everything into the garage with a space heater.)

I had to rig the carrier door so it would stay open.

Good thoughts and prayers for this sweet kitty that deserves a loving home. Thank you for taking care of her.

I'd throw out the "Boss man" and replace him with the cat!

Seriously though I think you're doing a great job of looking after this poor cat and I hope things turn out right for both of you.

    Update #3

The kitty never returned after lastnight.Im hoping the owner got the roaming notice issued by the Humane Services and decided to keep the cat in.If thats the case I hope the lesson is learned and I never see that kitty again(I mean that in a good way)If I do see the kitty in the future I will take matters in my own hands and bring her into the SPCA.

Thanks for your concern and support

    Marlaina.

I would have cared for the cat as you did but I would have probably called the woman an moron to her face.

Many years ago a neighbor of my mom had the sweetest cat who loved to be held and loved lap time. He even fell asleep while I was holding him. At his home he was tormented by both the man of the house (I use that term loosely) and their seven year old son who threw rocks at the cat. We found a new home for him where he is today - ten years later! He's well loved and knows it. At his first home the "man of the house" wore a baseball cap all of the time and even ten years later he gets frightened by anyone wearing a cap.

I hope that woman and her husband are looking after the kitty properly.

No matter - she knows where to go if she 'escapes'!

Maybe a pamphlet on basic cat care that dispels a few myths (like they have fur so they are fine kind of nonsense) tucked in the door or mailbox might be useful.

Would the SPCA or etc have something on their website?

Bless you for caring and helping!

Another great "shelter" idea is to buy the largest storage tub you can find. Flip it over with the cover on the bottom and cut a whole in it large enough for the kitty to get through. Line the bottom with newspaper (great insulator), hay and a blanket. That's what we, the people in MY rescue group, use as a makeshift shelter. It works great and will definitely help her escape from the cold winter air.

Thank you so much for caring about the kitty. I hope these people have decided to take her in and care for her. If not, the next time you see her, snatch her up! They don't deserve her.

    Stupid owners

You have done very well keeping this poor kitty fed and speaking out for her to the authorities. Hopefully they did what they said they would. Even though this is a horrible situation, you did everything you could. Don't feel guilty for not being able to take her in. We can hope that she was picked up by someone else who will keep her, love her, and give her the life she deserves. As for those morons across the street, I'm not sure that any warning, notice, or citation from the animal authorities will make any difference. Some "people" just never get the message! Prayers are being prayed for the kitty girl.....

    Update #4

The cat returned a couple times this week. One time I took the cat back to its owner and when I asked "Is this your cat"?she said yes.I told her that I have been looking after the cat feeding it and such for sometime,She said to the cat "At least I know someone is taking care of you" and as Iwas handing the cat back to her she said "Do you want to adopt him?"and smerked.I snached the cat back and asked"Do you want this cat or not?,because if you dont there are shelters out there that will take this cat and find him a good home if you dont".She said no its not like that, the cat is a tom cat and I cant keep it in,everytime I open the door he takes off,and he's not neutered. So I went on telling her that she cant continue leaving her cat outside and that if the cat wants to be out now and then, she should buy a harnus and leash so that it wont stray off in the streets, and told her she should get him neutered.

Surprise, surprise the cat came back a couple more times.Lastnight he returned again. The weather was awful, high winds, very cold temp.So I made him shelter out of a storage container.I tipped it on its side and I wrapped the outside with a mattress cover and filled it with blankets and a fleece nightgown of mine.I put in some food and a mouse toy and left it on my doorstep for him to sleep in.Well slept there all night and never got up until 8:30 am.I watched him go to what he knows is home to be let in.That didnt happen. The owner left for work again without letting the kitty in.I waited until 10:00 am for the Humaine services to open and I took him down.

I walked in with the cat and asked where do I go to drop of a stray. She said "even if this is your cat we will still take him"She thought it was mine, and I was trying to get rid of him.Well I guess the fancy cat tent that I had him in didnt help much, and the fact I wanted them to get in touch with me to let me know the outcome didnt help either So I explained that I called last week about this situation and that they were going to issue a roaming cats notice to the owner and they told me if the neglect continues than for me to capture the catand bring him in.So thats what I done.I asked if the notice was given and she said NO it wouldn't be sent out yet if you only called last week So nothing was done on there part to help me lastweek when I spent hours on the phone trying to help this kitty.

The lady told me that he is around 10 months old. They will keep him for 7 days to see if the owner claims him,if the owner dont claim him in 7days he will go up for adoption. They will keep him as long as they have the room and he gets along well the the other animals. She made a note on the paper for someone to call me to let me know what happens to him

I couldn't help but feel sad when I left him there.A couple weeks of looking out for that little guy I guess I was a little attached.I know I done the right thing and it is for the best.

I will let you know if they contact me.

    Thanks for everything,Marlaina.

Things have a way of working out Marlaina.

I can't believe that woman - won't pay for getting him neutered then boots him outside because he sprays!

I hope SHE is spayed because I don't want to see the Living Creatures Stupid Gene passed on.

If Boss Man softens a bit...maybe you could keep the kitty in a large dog cage in your bedroom, away from Felix for a bit. After he's neutered, of course!

    Prayers coming your way!

If I could provide the cat a furever home I would have, its not so much the "boss man"(said joking)thats the problem there are other factors that come in to play.I would never be able to cage an animal even if it were short term.He deserves better than that. This is kinda out of my hands now.Like I said, the cat is now with humane services,in hopes for an adoption to a loving, furever home.

    Stupid owners Final update

Oh Marlaina, my heart is broken in a zillion pieces This poor kitty was just a baby and never had much of a chance. If not for you he would never have known what it meant to be loved and cared for. You certainly went above and beyond to try and get him away from an unspeakable situation, may God bless you many times over. My big concern is that these bottom feeders will try and adopt another kitty. If only EVERY kitty could be a Pet Talk kitty.....

Hi Marlaina! As I post this, my sweet Groucho is curled up here sound asleep with a full tummy, nice and warm, knowing that he's loved beyond measure. As he purrs, my heart breaks for this poor kitty. You've done so much for this little guy, the love you have shown him has made his life better. I can only imagine your level of frustration between those #@!*!! across the street and the humane society not doing much of anything. Is this a no kill shelter? Prayers being prayed that kitty will find his furever home where he will be loved and cared for as every kitty deserves to be. Groucho wants to send you many kitty hugs and kisses to thank you for caring enough to step in and help, he says you're a real kitty kat hero! Bless you!!!!!

Is this a no kill shelter?
The lady told me that they do put down animals if it becomes overcrowded. They will keep him up for adoption as long as there is room and he gets along well with the other animals. The chances of him being adopted is good,he is young, gentle and loving and would make a great pet for a family with or without children, not to mention how handsome he is.

I left them my name and number and asked if they would call me to let me know the outcome.I have a good feeling that he will have no trouble finding a furever home.

Thanks so very much sweet Groucho,I loved every hug and kiss that came my way Sending them right back at ya,Muah!
