I doubt it's a food allergy because you mentioned that she does this at night. Sucking and licking objects is a normal behavior that many dogs exhibit when they're frightened or nervous, and many primarily do this during or before sleep. It's a habit they acquired as young puppies by suckling their mother.
Has there been any recent changes in the household? Did you switch around furniture? Did your BF just move in? There really isn't a concrete solution, but whenever Giselle pillow-licks, I distract her/wake her up. After she falls back asleep she doesn't seem to lick anymore.
It could also mean that your dog is not getting enough exercise. Do you take him for walks and exercise him? He may need more, being that he's a lab and taking his age into consideration, they typically need tons of exercise at that age.![]()
I'd guess its just a comfort thing before going to sleep. Autumn sometimes does this when she's really tired and has been know to fall asleep mid-lick. If anything else I might guess an allergy of irritation from the fabric or detergent.
"There are two things which cannot be attacked in front: ignorance and narrow-mindedness. They can only be shaken by the simple development of the contrary qualities. They will not bear discussion."
