If someone's dog bites off a good sized chunk, most people can't get to their dog in time to get the piece out before it's swallowed, even if they are sitting right in front of it and staring at them while they are eating it. If a dog likes what it's chewing on he often will gulp it down even faster if he sees someone coming to take it away. I don't think it's irresponsible of the pet owners that their dogs got sick off of the Greenies. Any chews are unsafe in reality, even if you are sitting right there. It woudl be very easy for a dog to be chewing one and suddenly bite off a bigger chunk than intended and it gets swallowed. They don't really worry about chewing things into tiny pieces most of the time. They will swallow it to keep on chewing. The vet says she has seen several cases and that it wasn't digestible. Not every dog who eats a greenie will die, obviously, but some may. Lots of things are marketed as safe for dogs when they really aren't very good for them. Yes SOME people are irresponsible with their pets, and don't watch them, but even if those people had been watching them, there is no guarantee it still wouldn't have happened.
I just think it's sad that they tried to do something nice for thier pet and lost them over it.
