New puppy crying

Geez y'all...a baby is a baby. Place a radio close to his cage and leave it on a station that's easy to listen to - like jazz or classical. He will have "company" such as voices and the music will be soothing to him. Leave him a t-shirt, or other clothing item with your scent on it, to comfort him with additional familiarity. And yes, I know it's hard to do, but you are going to have to ignore him and let him get used to his surroundings. He will learn quickly and you both will be happy.

I just adopted a 12 1/2 week old Border Collie pup.

She cried so much it sounded like you were torturing her.

Here's what I did:
- Her crate is in a room where there is a bit of human activity
- I take her outside right before she goes in her crate
- I cover her crate with a blanket (to prevent whining)
- I leave the radio on quietly so she's not as lonely

If she whines a bunch and doesn't shut up, I slowly creep into the room and growl "QUIET!!!!" at her.

I also immediately take her outside when I take her out of the crate.

I have a 9 week old Golden Reteriver, Charlie he is doing very well except for the past couple of nights he has been peeing in the crate. He doesn't cry so its hard to tell when he will pee.
The crate is in my room and his crate is along side Stewie, he is our year old Golden. Help not sure what do to he goes in the crate no problem.

My husband and I just got a Minitature Australian Shepherd puppy two weeks ago. I can totally empathize with you on the crate training! But we stuck it out now he is sleeping through the night without any accidents at all! He doesn't even cry when he goes in at the beginning. When we started putting him in the crate for the first time we would wait until he was quiet for a while and then took him out of the crate and brought him outside.
A few days after we got Paz I went on to www.leerburg.com They have a lot of great puppy Q&A's and articles! I highly suggest going through it. We found a house training article that helped a lot. Paz is now on a daily schedule with specific times to be in the crate and our kitchen and everything else. It has really helped a lot. I agree that it is really important for your new pup go outside immediatly before putting him in the crate and immediatly afterwards. He'll learn he has a window of oppurtunity to go to the bathroom so he better take it! Paz has learned that anyway! It does take a lot of time to get through all of this though. Paz will sometimes bark or whine when he goes in his crate during the day. But after a little ignoring he stops. If it is really hard to listen to after a little while, leave your house. Even if it is just for a short time. It will give you a nice break from it and he will realize you aren't letting him out because he is crying! Congrats on your new puppy and the best of luck!!!

Ok folks - it's been almost a month since I've had Bodie and NOTHING has changed as far as the crate. He still screams and screams when he goes in it. He is in there all day from about 8:00 am until 4:30 pm ( I come home 2 times during the day for potty breaks) - so you'd think he'd be used to it and love it. Not the case. I have to con him into the crate w/ treats and then hurry and shut the door before he RACES out. He's still not sleeping through the night - but i'm now only getting up 1 time instead of 2. Any suggestions?

Eek! Try your best to not let him pee in his crate!! It could be a sign that the crate is too big for him. Put a bunch of toys around where he has peed. They don't like to pee where they sleep or near their possessions. They like to keep clean. Good luck!

I bought ear plugs. Finn's crying didn't bother us at all. I would put my phone alarm on so that it would vibrate and I kept it near me when I slept so that it would go off every two hours...he didn't cry long, because we never went to him while he was whining. I mean, I'd make sure he was safe, but, I wouldn't say much. Good luck...

We have just adopted an 8 week old American Bulldog and we are also using the crate at night and when we are not home. We've had her for almost a week now and she's almost clean already believe it or not and the nights are getting better and better.

The problem is during the day... We have to leave her in her crate for about 6 hours 3 days a week and it seems to be too much for her tiny bladder.

When I got home yesterday she had been in there for almost 5 hours and she was barking and whining very loudly... She couldnt hold herself so she urinated in her crate, so when I got home I took her outside right away.

Today, she peed in her crate again after only beeing in there for 2h30 .. and she was barking again when we walked in.

I have done almost everything.. T-Shirt, Clock, Toy, Treats, cover the crate with blankets, radio and we put her in her cage 20 mins before we leave to she can fall asleep and if she whines we tell her "NO" or "SHHH" and it works, but I guess she wakes up and has to go pee but no one is there to let her out so she whines and barks...

We live in an appartement so we can't have her barking like that... I'm thinking of bringing her to my parents (in a house) since it's really not that far from where I live but i'm afraid it really wont help to put her in a new environment like that..

Any tips?

When he cries, DO NOT baby or coddle him or give him any attention at all. If you do, he'll learn "Oh I want attention or I don't like this situation, if I whine mom won't make me do it anymore!!" so whenever he wants something or attention he'll learn to whine.

So you just need to ignore him, and NOT give any attention and he will learn that its not getting him any attention, so he will stop
