I've never taken an animal to the pound, though we rescued a cocker spaniel off the side of the road a few years ago, and when it became painfully clear that he didn't like little kids (my siblings were very young at the time) we found him a home with a retired couple who treats him like a king.

I've had to have several pets PTS, and it was painfully difficult every time.
