Yeah they are'nt as bad as they look. Those are huge looking wounds
They are long (as you can see), but not deep.. the vet was really worried that they would just keep ripping and getting longer if not dealt with.

I am so sorry, to hear about Tikeya.
Poor girl.
It is a shame you have to separate them.
I remember when Rocky and Sheba went at it a couple of times.
Lucky I was their and grabbed Rocky before he could
hurt her. After that I took everything out of the back yard and in
the house they could possibly fight over. I kept them separated
for about 6 months when I was not home to supervise them.
I stopped letting them rough house with each-other too.
Eventually I was able to keep them together unsupervised.
Till this day, I never have anything laying around they can fight over
including me.
(of course Sheba is so old now)
I was told early on by a woman who ran an Akita rescue,
that dogs never forget and once they have a drag out fight
it is rare they can be together again.
I hope that is not the case with you.![]()

It was a fight over a prized possession namely food, not over dislike for one another. If they got along well before there is no reason for major concern as long as no food treats are laying around to cause another fight and even then chances are it won't happen because, Tikeya learned an important lesson today and will never likely try to take food from Baby again. Dogs can have tiffs and it is over within seconds, if the loser got knocked down a notch in their pack order they might be acting warier for a few days, showing more submissiveness as a repectiveful gesture of a lower ranking member to the winner but rarely is there lasting anomosity, if there is it is usually caused by the humans favoring the lower ranking dog. I can understand worrying though, when I fostered I always used muzzles on all the dogs my own included(to make sure none had the advantage over the other) until I was absolutely positive that all were getting along. Over the years I have had dog disputes especially when a new dog is brought into the home, especially when I had one very dominant foster, or my own very dominant female who like to ket new dogs know she was the boss within the first 15 mnutes of meeting, so far muzzles have prevented any trips to the ER. One of the best muzzles available is what is called the italian muzzle, it is similiar to a greyhound muzzle allowing the dog to be able to eat and drink with it on and most important pant easily or vomit safely if they are ill unlike many other commercial muzzles, it is lighter in weight and more flexible than the greyhound muzzles. Greyhound muzzles are used not because the dogs are agressive but they can be competitive and rough play can easily result in tearing their very thin skins, so minimizes possible damage. Here is an example of the italian muzzle http://www.dogmuzzle.com/itbaspoldogm1.html

personally I dont really like the idea of muzzeling the dogs.
We'll just keep them seperated when food/treats are around, or in the backyard. If worse comes to worse, and Tikeya cant find common ground with Baby.. Then her and I will have to leave.
