In biology we dissected a Frog, Fish, Giant Grasshopper, Crayfish and a worm.

This year in Anatomy we have dissected a sheep brain and next week a sheep eye For our final we have to dissect a fetal pig. The pig is actually the only dissection that I would "agree" with, the piglets are all stillborns or died soon after birth. The rest were all raised and then killed for students to dissect Its all very sad but sadly my teachers have never let anyone do alternative things and I would not fail a class over something like this. I LOVE animals, don't get me wrong, whether I participated in the dissection or not these animals would still be being raised and killed.

Good luck on your paper though! That program sounds really neat, gee, I wish our school would do something like that instead!

I don't think it's necessary for all biology students. But for pre-meds and Pre-vets in college, well, until they develop the Holodeck there's no real alternative to learning anatomy. Having said that, the origin of the animals used is important too.
