there is no database that keeps track of every single animal that is put down because nobody would adopt or it because its not adoptable, but the estimate is between 6-10 million and its also estimated that for every 1 shelter dog there is 2 maybe 3 more that roam on the streets of the USA. i know big cities like destroit have over 20,000 strays alone

The humane socitey of america could most likely could give you the averages and stats you need.
The only cat I ever had done it was free at the shelter if I disposed (horrible term) of the body.
This last spring having my Merlin (springer) put down and creamated cost me about $100.00 But if I had not wanted his ashes it would have been $35.00
