Too late to help you this time, but I use Bag Balm on minor skin irritations. It's actually for cow udders, but it works great!

Thanks guys. I feel so bad...I made an appointment for tomorrow at 1:30 - it was the soonest I could get him in. Poor guy. Glacier I will keep that in mind in case we have this problem again, maybe I can catch it sooner.

Hi, I'm new to Pet Talk. Sorry to hear about your Rosco. My vet has me use Mentholatum around the area, but not to close to the sore. Just to keep them from licking it and making it worse. They don't like the smell, but it's not harmful. Hope everything works out ok.
